#SFGAfcon20 – Tresor Mputu v Togo, 2006

With Lomana LuaLua, Shabani Nonda and Tresor Mputu at their disposal DR Congo had a forward line that was not too shabby in the noughties. While LuaLua and Nonda were well-known thanks to their stints in Europe, Mputu’s choice to remain in Africa made him somewhat of a mystical figure; a delight for those willing to risk their eyesight to watch a grainy stream of a TP Mazembe match.

Mputu is the highest scorer in the African club competitions, and he was the poster boy of TP Mazembe’s domestic and continental gold rush in the late and early 2000s. Not blessed with blistering pace, in this goal against Togo at the 2006 AFCON he showed the yogic execution that made him so refreshing to watch in his prime.
