AFCON 2015 South Africa 1-1 Senegal Player Ratings

SOUTH AFRICA

Jackson Mabokgwane 6

Impressive distribution but didn’t command area well, with position particularly suspect.

Anele Ngcongca 7

Tireless performance from right back, ensured Mane didn’t have much joy.

Eric Mathoho 6

Senegal’s height troubled him at set pieces but was solid in open play.

Thulani Hlatshwayo 6

Started off the match well but forced off with concussion.

Andre Jali 5

One of the best touches of the tournament in the 77th minute but wasteful passing decisions in the final third.

Dean Furman 6

Diligent in midfield with a couple of crunching tackles.

Oupa Manyisa 6

Not as active as he was against Algeria but took his goal well.

Thuso Phala 6

Started the game well but faded and was rightly taken off just past the hour.

Sibusiso Vilakazi 6

A lot of time on the ball in the first half but generally didn’t use it well.

Tokelo Rantie 6

His pace always makes him a threat to any defence but he never looks like scoring against decent opposition.

Notable substitutions

Ayanda Gcaba 6

Slotted in well for Hlatshwayo, not putting a foot wrong.

Reneilwe Letsholonyane 6

Added bite into the Bafana Bafana midfield.

Bernard Parker 6

Pressed Senegal well and was generally lively after coming on.

SENEGAL

Bouna Coundoul 6

The Senegal captain wasn’t tested much in his goal.

Lamine Gassama 6

Could have shown more awareness for South Africa’s goal, but made up for it with a great block on Matlaba.

Lamine Sane 7

A mainstay in the Senegal defence, typically solid.

Kara Mbodji 7

Good towering header for the equaliser, swept well at the back against a pacey Bafana Bafana attack.

Cheick Mbengue 6

Superb tackle to deny Rantie, defensively reliable throughout.

Alfred N’Diaye 5

Aerially good as ever, but it’s difficult to see what else he brings to the team.

Idrissa Gueye 6

Senegal’s Mr Reliable, a solid all-round performance in his water-carrier role.

Sadio Mane 6

Could see why Senegal desperately included him in the team. Added spark.

Moussa Sow 5

Lacked the service but his flicks and passes didn’t quite come off.

Mame Biram Diouf 6

Lively once Senegal equalised. Never stops working despite the lack of service.
