After a superb season with FC Mounana, where Malick Evouna scoopied up the top scorer award, then led Gabonese outfit to a league title. The striker arrived in Casablanca in late, late August.
But his tardy transfer has not slowed the striker’s adaption period, as he has been very successful with Wydad de Casablanca. He follows a well-known route for West African strikers who often stop in the Maghreb before eventual moves across the Mediterranean basin.
Upon arrival, his physical presence was immediately noted, but it is his improvement in the technical aspect of his repertoire that has really impressed critics.
For instance, when interim coach Claude Albert Mbourounot gave him an opportunity to spearhead the Gabonese attack in a recent friendly against Morocco, local commentators took every opportunity to comment on the new Evouna they encountered.
‘This is the new Malick. We never knew Malick like this. Like a bison, he has cut through this defence.’ Then again, ‘We did not know he had such technical ability!’
In Marrakech, Evouna scored his first official goal for Gabon in international football.
This season, he particularly impressed against FUS Rabat, where he terrorised the capital club on numerous occasions. He was explosive and utilized the channels well. Evouna even scored a winning goal in the dying minutes of the match to further endear himself with WAC’s fans.
Spanish, Portuguese, and French clubs are all keeping a watchful eye on Evouna, who will surely be making the next step in his career in the very near future.
