SFG Player of the Week: Ramires

Chelsea's last 4 teams on their fixture list were Tottenham, Barcelona, Arsenal and Barcelona once more, yet they did not lose any of those games despite what has been said in the media. As a result of this, the Sandals For Goalpost's Player of the Week award has to go to Ramires for this outstanding contribution.

He has been a consistent performer all season. Playing a more central role under Andre Villas Boas,  new boss Roberto Di Matteo has placed the pacey midfielder into the position he is comfortable in: out on the wings. This relocation has worked in Chelsea’s favour, with the Brazilian netting 2 in his last 3 games: 1 goal in the 5-1 FA Cup semi-final victory against London rivals Tottenham Hotspurs; and a beautifully crafted chip over Victor Valdes in the 2nd leg of the Champion’s League semi-final, which helped see Chelsea progress  to face Bayern Munich (in Munich!). Don’t forget his excellent 1st leg performance against the Catalan club: picking up the ball from a lovely Frank Lampard pass, outpacing the Barca players and setting up Didier Drogba to finish the ball, making it 1-0 to Chelsea.

Sadly, Ramires will be missing the Champion’s League final as he is suspended due to an accumulation of yellow cards, but we leave you with a video of the brilliantly executed chip over Valdes:
