Write For Us

Why us?

Formed in January 2012, Sandals For Goalposts is one of the fastest growing football blogs in the blogosphere. We are promising, we are young, we write with joie de vivre, we have very ambitious plans  and we’re all really down to earth, unfailingly polite lads. Before this blog was created most of us were not blogging/writing about football so we wear the sandals of empathy for those who have not written about football before, and if you are a prolific football writer then that’s great as well!  Be part of something special: Join us!

Who we want.

We want talented writers, aspiring writers, football aficionados who just enjoy writing about football or just anyone who wants to give football writing/blogging a go. If you want to boost your football writing portfolio, or just enjoy writing about football, SFG is your one-way ticket to achieving bigger and better things.

What we want.

We want articles related to African and Asian football. We want to hear about the African/Asian player who is making headway at your local team, the team you support or a particular league you watch. We want to hear about the nostalgic tales from the past – personal or otherwise. We want everything from the sandy street level to the illustrious international level. Although the focus is on African and Asian football, we also don’t mind a sprinkling of world football on our site so we certainly won’t turn good articles on anything football-related away. We want everything from one-off guest pieces to regular pieces.

Will I get paid?

You won’t get paid but the SFG team are currently discussing the possibility of recruiting regular African and Asian football PAID – that’s right! – columnists and there is a high likelihood that 4-6 vacancies will open up. Already working for us may strengthen your application when those vacancies became available, if that is an avenue you want to pursue. Moreover, discussions are also ongoing on the possibility of a monthly competition where the best article of each month – judged by a panel – will win some sort of prize.

I want to write something for SFG, what do I do now?

We want to hear from you! Get writing and send your article to sandalsforgoalposts@gmail.com. To increase your chance of publication  – and avoidance of disappointment – we prefer for you to pitch the idea to us prior to writing (as someone else may be writing about that particular topic already or the topic may have already been covered). We accept submissions in all the major document formats (Microsoft Word, Open Office, txt and rtf).

How can I become a permanent writer for SFG?

Once you have contributed a few guest pieces we may ask you to join the team, depending on if we have any positions that are available. At the moment, we do.
